Welcome Varsity Golf and Mr. Scott!

This year is truly an exciting year for the Crusaders!

The fall-season Crusader athletes have been dominating, and still are, in these three sports: volleyball, cross-country, and tennis. Now, this year’s fall season has become greater than ever as it welcomes a new sport: Varsity Golf.

Unlike other sports that can be practiced in a gym or on the soccer field, golf requires its own unique practice spaces, which include either a golf course or a screen room. Some students wonder, ‘How do they practice at school?’ or ‘What are the tournaments like?’ Although it may seem almost impossible to practice golf at our school, Mr. Scott’s contribution and leadership have allowed the team to thrive, breaking all boundaries.

Behind every moment, victories and losses, Coach Scott was always there for the team. Mr. Scott points out that the biggest difference between golf and all the other sports, the facilities. “As coaches, we need to come up with creative ways that are going to be enjoyable while also providing ways for the athletes to improve”, he says. Golf is definitely a sport that requires more than just a gym. Because it requires different types of practices that range from doing workouts to playing at an actual driving range, causing “the sport to stand out.”

Coach Scott has also led the Varsity Badminton team for the past few years. The two sports are clearly different however, he also finds crossovers between the two sports. Coach Scott finds that both sports require “strategy and mental toughness, which [he] tends to focus on a lot with golf.” For Varsity golf, he advises more on the “mental side of the game while spending more time on the technical aspects of with those who are still developing their skills without outside coaching.”

Coach Scott is also very excited about being able to contribute to a sport and share knowledge and passion for a sport that he loves. To many people, it is a surprising fact that Mr. Scott has never coached a golf team before, despite his long golf career. Therefore, he is “looking forward to the challenge of organizing practices and competitions and hopefully providing a base for the program’s future.”

The Varsity Golf team has already made amazing progress so far, making the Crusaders proud

of all the student-athletes. The athlete’s hard work and the mentorship demonstrated by Coach

Scott, Coach Coogan, and Coach Ko collectively have shaped and positively impacted the team’s success.

“My aim is to put golf on the map here at SFS, generating more and more interest as the years go by, enabling it to be highly contested and a program that is valued for many years to come,” he adds.

Well, it is pretty clear that he has already made a huge impact on establishing a wonderful program!
